I haven’t done a post like this since December 2025, and a lot has changed since then.

Well, as of January 2026, I officially resigned, and I am a full-time swing trader.

Since then, the community has grown by another 600 people, and as I write this, we have 2,276 traders in Freedom Trades.

I want to talk a bit about the upgrades that have happened on the Discord server, because I believe that’s where the biggest leap has been made over the past few months.

In March 2026, I built and tested a Python bot that automatically captures my trades on IBKR and posts them instantly in the Signals channel on Discord, so you will receive them in real time, without waiting for me to post manually.

(That’s what I used to do before, and it would obviously take forever. By the time I was posting, the price had already moved. Now the delay is 5 seconds max.)

The bot is now live.

On top of that, the bot also sends a daily end-of-day recap of my positions, so you know exactly which ones I’m still in and which ones I’ve exited.

Then I took things to the next level.

Using Claude to code, I built a scanner based on a formula I created that detects price and volume contraction, along with other factors such as RS Rating, distance from the 50MA, Avg $Vol 20D, 52-Week High Proximity, ADR%, and more.

It even takes into account the market environment. For example, depending on the VIX level, it applies either a penalty or a boost to the score.

I had to come up with all these formulas myself, but the scanner is starting to think more and more like my own style.

The next step was to connect this scanner to the Discord server.

I built a bot that pulls the tickers and their charts and posts them in the Discord server every day after market close, so you have enough time to build your focus list for the next day.

Costs of running the business

Some of you might think I live off Substack revenue, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Over the past few months, I’ve been investing every single dollar back into building, growing, and improving the community.

For example, I purchased these monitors and a desktop computer.

Please don’t judge my cable management, I’ll get to it eventually, haha.

This setup has helped me enormously to improve my workflow, respond to your questions and messages faster, and be more efficient overall.

Before this, I was doing everything from a laptop.

The software side is another major expense category.

Here is what I currently use:

• Domain name - $50 yearly

I’ve spent close to 60,000 credits on Claude Code, lol. That’s a lot of money.

Or back in January, when I was testing different AI coding tools and paid for both Lovable and Replit, and then for FMP to connect market data to the platform.

But these are just examples, I could go on forever, but that’s not the point of this post.

The point is that I don’t care about hoarding money just for the sake of it.

I want to build the best possible thing, and for that you need to invest both money and time.

I want this platform to truly help you, bring value, and serve you for the years to come.

This is not a one-time thing.

This community was built with the intention of lasting at least a decade.

It is a more efficient way to lose less than 1R (unit of risk) when the trade does not move in your favor, without cutting your profit potential too much.

Before I start, I want to give credit to Jeff Sun.

I learned this technique from him.

Since then, this technique has even been adopted by many traders and even some quant firms.

That shows how effective it is and how it creates an edge.

The technique is called the 3-point stop loss.

In the chart below, you have Trader A using the 3-stop strategy and Trader B using a 1 full stop strategy.

Two different stop-loss applications and their resulting drawdowns, based on a 28% win rate over a 500-trade sample size.

Notice how the drawdown is significantly smaller for the trader using the 3-stop strategy.

Most traders obsess over the same question: how do I win bigger?

They chase larger targets, push their exits, and stretch their R multiples, often without realizing they are solving the wrong problem.

The real lever hiding in plain sight is on the other side of the trade, specifically in how small your losses are.

How to use the 3-stop strategy

The core principle is to reduce your losses well before a trade hits the full stop.

Turning a -1R trade into roughly -0.67R.

I will show you an example of an entry and stop loss below.

How it works:

• You enter a trade and define your full risk distance (Entry to Stop = 1R)

• Split that distance into 3 equal zones

• Level 1: Price drops 33% toward your stop, sell 33% of your position

• Level 2: Price drops 66% toward your stop, sell another 33%

• Final Stop: Only the remaining 34% exits at the hard stop

By the time price hits your stop, most of your position is already out at better prices.

A trade that would have cost you 1R now only costs roughly 0.67-0.78R.

Over hundreds of trades, that difference compounds significantly.

It is the main reason an average loss of 0.7R is achievable even with slippage and spread, and it is one of the most controllable metrics in any trading system.

BONUS: You can further reduce overnight risk by trimming 50% of the position before the market close on day 0 if your position is trading below your entry.

Why Small Losses Change Everything

The math here is deceptively powerful.

A standard 2:1 setup sounds decent.

But trim your average loss from 1R down to 0.75R and your adjusted risk/reward jumps to 2.67:1 without touching your winners at all.

Scale that up to a 3R target and you’re suddenly looking at a 4:1 ratio.

The wins didn’t change.

The losses just got a little smaller.

When you internalize this concept, the improvement in your expectancy and equity curve projection will be felt almost immediately.

The real value of the 3-stop strategy doesn’t appear in just a handful of trades.

It’s a long-term discipline that requires consistency and repetition to gradually reduce your drawdown.

Taking it to the next level

With the help of Perplexity, I was able to build a platform that automates this for me.

As you can see in the image below.

Practically, the platform connects to my broker via an API, pulls market data, calculates my position size based on the risk I choose and my stop level (Low of Day, PLOD, HOD, etc.).

Then I can select the order type Market + 3 stops, and the system automatically places the 3 stops at 33% intervals.

I do not have to do anything manually.

This gives me a huge edge when it comes to discipline and risk control.

Since I never touch the stop losses, I just hit one button and wait for the outcome.

There are many other features this tool can handle, but that is something I will show you in another edition.

Do you use leverage or not?

The answer is a bit more complicated, so I decided to write an entire article about why leverage is not the most efficient way to grow a small account.

This helps to grow your account in a way that avoids large drawdowns or even full blowups.

That is how the account grew 895% in 2024 and 203% in 2025.

You only need a few strong months and 3–4 stocks that hit big, sometimes just a single good month, to achieve outstanding performance by following this system.

I use something called:

Progressive Exposure and How It Helps You

It helps you to:

1. manage downsides

2. to bet big or not

3. tells you when to sit in cash and

4. when to follow the trend

Think of your exposure like an accelerator.

You do not jump from 0 to 200.

You press progressively, in steps.

Instead of starting a new market cycle with full positions, you do this:

1. start with pilot positions, small test positions

2. if the trades work, move to half positions and add more names

3. if both you and the market continue to perform, you upgrade to full positions

only in exceptional conditions, when you are in top form and the market is performing in the same direction, does it make sense to move to overweight.

It is a ladder, and you only climb each step if the last one held.

If you could see how this looks on a chart, it would look like this.

This is SPY (which is usually referred to as “the general market,” although that is not entirely accurate, it only represents S&P 500 equities).

Why am I showing you the SPY chart? Because statistics tell us that 3 out of 4 stocks follow the general market.

And when you trade, you want to be aligned with the general market.

Use the 10, 20, 50, and 200 MA as your guide.

When SPY is below the 200 MA, that is not the time to push.

How to apply progressive exposure

Let us put everything into a concrete scenario, very close to what often shows up in your accounts.

Scenario 1: coming out of a correction

You come out of a corrective period, you have been lightly exposed or in cash, the index starts to recover and closes a few days above the 20 MA, and you see a few leaders beginning to build bases.

Game plan:

Day 1–3: pilot mode

• pick 1–2 highly liquid stocks with a clean setup

• enter with 2–3% of your capital in each

• clear, tight stop.

After 3–5 days

• if the pilot positions work in your favor, stay above your entry, and print higher highs and higher lows

• and the index confirms, without instantly rejecting the new trend

• now you can add another 1–2 trades.

After 5–10 trades

• if you have a group of winners, with 2–3R on a few names and small losses

• from here, you start to size up the new entries

• you can even top up existing leaders using open profit, not fresh capital.

If instead the first 3–5 trades are whipsaws and stopouts, you have no reason to size up, and no reason to start overtrading; cut and reassess.
The market is clearly telling you it is not a favorable environment.

Scenario 2: Everything is working, you are on a hot streak

You have 10–15 trades behind you, your equity curve is climbing nicely, drawdowns are minimal, and you finally feel like you are seeing the market clearly.

How to use that without blowing yourself up:

• at the beginning of this run, you were at 10–20% exposure

• as the winning trades stacked up, you increased to 40–80%

• now, with consistent profit, in the very best windows, you can temporarily push to 80–100%

• you do this with positions built gradually, not all at once

• and with a clear plan to scale down as soon as you see the first signs that the environment is deteriorating or that you are starting to make mistakes.

Once you take 2–3 losses in a row, cut exposure. When the market gets heavy, you do not get back at it with more leverage.

However, if you are in a massive bull market, everything is running, and all your positions are in profit according to your strategy, that is the time to press.

How progressive exposure helps you “time the market”

The biggest benefit of progressive exposure is that it naturally takes you out of positions and moves you into cash.
You do not have to sit there wondering, “hmm, is this the right moment to go to cash or to push harder,” the system does that for you through your position sizing and win or loss streaks.

Let the market decide how much capital or leverage you should use.

Most traders do not lose money because they lack an edge, they lose because they are largest exactly when they perform the worst and smallest when the market finally offers real opportunity.

To know whether you should apply corrective action, track two things:

• how the market is behaving right now

• how you have behaved in your last few trades

Your portfolio is your best indicator, listen to it.

It is no longer “I feel like a bull market is coming, I am going all in,” it becomes “I have consistent gains, the market is confirming, I am increasing my exposure.”

What are your last 5–10 trades telling you?

Ask yourself honestly, without ego:

• are you making money?

• are you earning at least 2R on average on your good trades?

• are your losses staying at 1R or less?

• is there follow‑through, or are you getting cut right after entry?

If the answer is:

• 4–6 winners out of 10, with multiple R’s on the winners and controlled losses → you can move one step up the ladder

• a string of consecutive stopouts, breakouts that fail, lots of noise → cut exposure, go back to pilot mode or even step aside

Do not go bigger to “make it back.”
Go bigger to capitalize when you are already doing well.

What is the market environment telling you?

At the index and leader level, look for:

• signs of a healthy environment

  • the index is recovering and holding key moving averages like the 20MA, 50MA, 200MA

  • leaders are breaking out of clean bases on volume

  • there is follow‑through for several days, not just one green day that gets sold off immediately

• signs of a toxic environment

  • wide and loose action, lots of whipsaw

  • breakouts are sold into right away

  • leaders are breaking support or reacting very poorly to earnings

You combine your personal feedback with the market’s feedback. Both need to say “GO” before you size up.

The one that breaks out hard.

The one that gives you a 100x return.

How do you find it? It is not about getting lucky.

It is about spotting a very specific pattern.

Today I will show you exactly how to find that setup.

We call it “EP”.

What is an Episodic Pivot?

Episodic Pivot occurs when a stock gaps up more than 10% on massive volume following a major catalyst.

An EP is not just a random stock going up.

It is a sequence of events.

How to recognize an Episodic Pivot - The 3 stages of an EP

You need three specific things to happen.

• Neglect: The stock has been boring, flat, or drifting down for months.

• The Catalyst: A massive, unexpected surprise hits the news. It changes the company’s entire fundamental outlook. The market has to re-evaluate the business from the ground up.

• The Reaction: The stock gaps up and opens significantly higher the next day. We are talking 10% or more.

Let me show you an example.

What actually causes this?

80% of these moves come from one specific event.

Earnings reports.

Earnings season is your absolute best hunting ground.

The other 20% are:

• Partnerships/Deals

• Innovations

• FDA approvals, SEC decisions etc

• Major Legislative Sweeps

When these unexpected events occur, they force the market to reassess the company’s value.

Why do retail traders have an edge here?

Small traders can get into smaller stocks that big institutions cannot easily build positions in, which lets them jump quickly on large percentage moves.​

Big institutional funds struggle to trade small caps efficiently.​

Liquidity constraints keep them from entering these names quickly.

What Happens Next?

So the stock gaps up massive on earnings. Do they all rocket straight to the moon? No.

They actually fall into three very distinct behavior buckets.

You need to know these before you risk your money.

The Fakeouts (13%)

These are the heartbreakers.

They shoot up for a day or two.

Everyone gets hyped up.

Then they reverse hard.

They do a complete 180-degree turn.

They give back every single penny of those gains.

The Choppers (57%)

This is the most common outcome.

They pop for one to three days.

Then they just go sideways.

They chop around. They don’t crash, but they don’t climb either.

It is highly frustrating. It is tough to trade this one.

The Runners (30%)

This is the dream setup.

It is confident. It is steady. It moves in an almost straight line upward.

It surfs the key moving averages.

It just grinds higher every single day.

This is the trade that makes your entire year.

How to trade an Episodic Pivot

The Entry

Do not buy blindly right at the open.

Make the stock prove it wants to go higher.

Use the 5M Opening Range Breakout (ORB).

another example:

Wait for the stock to push past that initial morning range.

Let it show true strength.

Stop Loss

This is critical.

Place your stop loss right at the Low of the Day.

This is a clear structural level.

If that level breaks, your trade thesis is simply wrong.

Get out. Do not argue with it.

Taking Profits

Secure your gains.

Sell a portion of your position into that initial strength.

Lock in some profit early.

Then, trail the rest of your position. Let that runner go.

See if you can catch that massive runner trend for weeks or even months.

How to get better at trading episodic pivots ?

It is very simple. Study them.​

You just have to put in the hours, there is no other way.​

Make a list of the 100 best performers from each year over the last 5 years.​

Then go through and mark on the chart every EP you can identify.​

Place each one into the 3 categories we discussed.​

Is it a chopper, a fake out, or a runner?​

You will start to build a mental model.​

You will start to see different patterns and understand each ticker’s personality.

Scanner to identify Episodic Pivots

It is quite simple to identify episodic pivots in real time.​

Just create a scanner.​

You can do this in any software, personally, I use TradingView.​

Then select the following parameters:​

• Market Cap bigger than 1B (you want to remove small caps, they are usually low probability and have a lot of overhead supply).​

• ADR bigger than 4%. I explained in detail here why this is so important

• Pre-Market Change bigger than 10%

That’s it.

Now as a bonus I would add Price to be above 200MA as you want a stock that is a momentum stock not a loser.

The Golden Rule

Keep the context in mind.​

It is very important to have that awareness of what kind of market we are in.

In a strong, bullish market, EPs work beautifully.

They follow through.

You get a lot of runners.

In a bearish market?

Even the absolute best news will get crushed.

The market’s downward pressure will smother the catalyst.

The Mindset

Most traders jump from one strategy to another.

They are always searching for that perfect strategy.

Today they might be momentum traders, tomorrow they are looking for a new indicator, and then they end up quitting altogether.

Profitable traders, on the other hand, start by mastering one setup.

If there is one setup to master, it would be this one.

Having the discipline to execute is far more important than finding a “perfect” system.

At least for me, it did.

Because it finally gave me the answer to my problem:

how to accelerate the growth of a small account through swing trading without massive drawdowns.

And the proof is my own account, which I built from zero to $100k.

I will start with the basics, and as you read the article, it will become more complex.

What is ADR%?

ADR% (Average Daily Range) is an indicator that shows you how much a stock “moves” on average per day, relative to its price. If you want to think of it as a trading tool, consider it the “speedometer” of a stock.

• What it measures: Volatility. It tells you the average variation between the High and the Low over the last 20 days (usually).

• How to read it: If a stock has an ADR of 5%, it means that, on average, it fluctuates 5% between the lowest and highest points of the day.

• How it helps you:

  • Realistic expectations: If a stock has already risen 4% today and has an ADR of 5%, it probably doesn’t have much “fuel” left for the rest of the day (remember this).

  • Stop Loss: It helps you avoid placing your stop too close. If the ADR is 5%, a 1% stop loss will be hit immediately by normal market noise.

Quick Example:

Imagine two stocks:

1. Stock A: ADR 2% (It’s like a stable SUV, it moves slowly and predictably).

2. Stock B: ADR 8% (It’s like a race car, it can go up a lot, but it can also “shake you out” quickly).

In swing trading, ADR% helps you pick the right “horses”: you want stocks that move enough to bring you profit (higher ADR), but not so violently that they knock you out of the position at every minor move.

Now I want to explain to you the relationship between LOD and ADR%.

What is LOD (Low of Day)?

LOD represents the minimum price reached by a stock during the current trading day. It is a dynamic point: it starts at the opening price and can decrease throughout the day if sellers push the price lower.

In a swing trading strategy, LOD is not just a simple number; it is considered the invalidation point. If the price drops below the LOD, your bullish scenario (of growth) is, as a rule, cancelled.

The Relationship Between LOD and ADR%: The Golden Rule of “Extension”

If ADR% represents the total movement capacity of a stock in a day, the distance from your entry price to the LOD represents the risk taken.

The relationship between the two boils down to a simple concept: Do not buy a stock that is already overextended.

Example

Let’s assume the following scenario. A stock has a 10% ADR.

• If you enter a trade where the distance from the current price to the LOD is already 8%, it means the stock has already consumed 80% of its daily “fuel.”

• Conclusion: You have too much risk for a remaining profit potential that is too small.

The 50% Rule

To have an efficient trade, the distance from the entry point to the LOD (which will be your Stop Loss) should be a maximum of 50% of the ADR%.

Mathematical Example:

• Stock with ADR = 4%.

• Distance from entry to LOD = 1.5%.

• Calculation: $1.5 / 4 = 37.5\%$.

• Verdict: This is a valid trade. You are below the 50% threshold, so the stock still has room to grow without being considered overextended.

Example 1: Valid Trade (Below the 50% threshold)

• ADR (Average Volatility): 10%

• Distance from entry to LOD (Stop Loss): 3%

The stock has consumed only 30% of its average daily move to give you an entry point. You have a “stop” protected by the LOD and still have 70% room to maneuver (potential upside) before the stock would become “stretched” for that day.

In this way, you will also have enough space to hold that position overnight in case of an overnight gap. If you are a swing trader, it is very important when holding a position overnight to see that it is already in profit. This increases your confidence in holding that position overnight and decreases the risk.

Example 2: Trade at the Limit (50-60% Threshold)

• ADR (Average Daily Range): 10%

• Distance from entry to LOD (Stop Loss): 8%

Here you are at the limit. The stock has already moved quite a bit relative to the day’s low. Your risk (8%) is high compared to how much the stock can normally “run.” If you enter here, you need a very strong catalyst for the stock to beat its average.

Why is this correlation vital?

By using LOD in relation to ADR%, you gain a massive mathematical advantage, specific to performance traders:

• Position Sizing: By having a “tight” Stop Loss (based on LOD) relative to normal volatility, you can put a larger amount of money into the trade (15-30% position size) while risking only a tiny fraction of your total capital (e.g., 0.15%).

• High Profit Factor: Even if you have a low win rate (for example, you only win 3 out of 10 trades), when you do win, you win big (4x or 5x your risk) because you entered close to the “floor” of the day.

• Avoiding “Noise”: If the ADR is high and you set a stop too close to the entry price (without considering LOD), you will be shaken out of the trade by a simple, normal price fluctuation.

In short: LOD tells you where to put your stop, and ADR% tells you if that spot is logical or if you arrived too late to the party.

By understanding these two concepts, you are ready to create the simplest mathematical edge.

The Magic of ADR% + LOD%

The massive advantage you will create is that you’ll be able to deploy less capital on a position and achieve higher returns.

It’s all in the math. Let me show you.

Scenario 1

0.5% Risk to Equity | 30% LoD Execution

• 1% ADR, (30% LoD execution), 0.5% Risk = 83.33% Capital Required

• 2% ADR, (30% LoD execution), 0.5% Risk = 41.67% Capital Required

• 3% ADR, (30% LoD execution), 0.5% Risk = 20.83% Capital Required

• 4% ADR, (30% LoD execution), 0.5% Risk = 10.42% Capital Required

Scenario 2

0.25% Risk to Equity | 30% LoD Execution

• 1% ADR, (30% LoD execution), 0.25% Risk = 41.67% Capital Required

• 2% ADR, (30% LoD execution), 0.25% Risk = 20.83% Capital Required

As you can see in Scenario 4, even a 1% risk (which is generally considered “safe”) is actually very high for a stock with a small ADR.

If it’s still not clear how these metrics can impact your portfolio value, let me give you a real-world example:

MSFT Example

Let’s take a classic name: Microsoft ($MSFT). It’s a giant, a solid stock, but it has a low ADR (Average Daily Range), often below 1.7%. If you try to structure a trade on $MSFT using a 1% total account risk, the math forces you to allocate a massive portion of your capital (position sizing) into that single position.

Essentially, to respect risk management in a stock that barely moves, you are forced to go “all-in” or close to it.

The result? Locked capital, zero flexibility, and an extremely low opportunity cost/profit rate.

I felt like a failure every single time.

To avoid this feeling and make it pass as quickly as possible, I would double my position size just to get out of it faster. Just to feel like a winner.

Obviously, I was doing nothing but digging myself even deeper.

I am going to explain my experience, how I went through my first drawdown, and how you can get through a drawdown on the right side.

What changed the way I look at drawdowns

It’s actually pretty simple.

I was scrolling through social media and a video of Qullamaggie caught my eye.

At one point, he says this:

“You’re gonna be in a drawdown 99% of your time.”

That statement was mindblowing for me at that time.

I couldn’t fathom… what do you mean I’ll be a loser 99% of the time???

But then I realized why this is normal.

You will never sell at the top or buy at the bottom.

As a swing trader, a healthy equity curve will move in quick bursts of all-time highs and then it will move either sideways or down.

Here’s an example:

So, what I want you to understand so far and truly internalize is that: IT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL TO HAVE DRAWDOWN PERIODS, especially as a swing trader.

There is no strategy without drawdowns.

Even the simplest strategy, which is buying the Index SP500, experiences drawdowns.

Now, what is not normal is to have a drawdown larger than 30-40-50%.

Your mentality shifts massively when you see such drawdowns, and you will have execution errors.

I wrote more here about what happens in your brain when you experience losses here.

For me, a huge breakthrough as a trader was the first time I managed to get through a drawdown systematically (meaning intentionally, without sizing up and having risk management rules).

How to get through your first drawdown

Why is it super important to achieve this and why does it give you an advantage? Because an experience is formed in your brain that you can later anchor to and rely on that past experience when this happens again.

Something like, “Ah, I’ve been through this before, I can do it again.”

Then, on the first day or the first few days when you incur that drawdown, it is going to suck; no matter what, it is going to be painful.

The number 1 thing you can do to improve that feeling is by throwing more pain at you.

Let me explain what I mean by that :))

The number 1 thing you should do is reviewing/analyzing your trades and market environment.

It is going to be painful because you are re-living the trauma that put you in this position. However, something good is born from this: namely, you start to be aware of where it went wrong.

Now you have awareness, then you understand what you could have done better, and then you know exactly what you need to do.

So first it gets worse, but then it gets better.

Now you have a mental feeling that you are prepared!

The number 2 thing you should do is reduce your size immediately!

Risk management during drawdowns

And then comes the next part, which is execution; you have to execute your plan and respect it or else you will go again in the next spiral, where it will be even more painful because you will lose your “self confidence” and then it will take more time.

So, without this component of analyzing your trades (which comes from having a trading journal), it will be mega difficult for you to get through a drawdown.

Because you are shooting blindly, based on feelings.

And it will make you even more emotional.

The more drawdowns you get through in your career, the less painful they will be because you become desensitized.

During these times, I keep cutting my position size by half until it is so small that the equity curve is not affected by losses at all.

Here are some good general rules that will save you tons of money:

Normally, these must be adapted to your strategy, but in general, they should save you.

I return to my normalized position size when positions start going your way.

What I mean by this is that, when the market is favorable, your trades simply work; you buy something and it instantly goes your way.

This is not the case in the current environment.

Now, as a beginner, to assess what kind of environment you are trading in, simply look at indicators like what the is doing, is it chopping around, or is it below the 20 MA?

Then you can look at $VIX to get an understanding of market volatility.

If it’s above 25, I’m telling you that this is not a suitable environment to buy breakouts :)

The more experience you gain and the more cycles you experience, the more you will develop a “feeling” and adapt faster to conditions as you become aware of them.

Until then, you can rely on the best indicator, which is your equity curve and the data from your trading journal.

It is as simple as that: if you are performing poorly and taking multiple consecutive losses, cut your position size in half. If you have a drawdown bigger than 5%, immediately cut size.

If you still perform poorly, cut again. And then, once you see a position is performing, you build another one and see if it works.

Then, with the unrealized profits you have, you can build another one. It’s all about progressive exposure; you don’t want to jump in too fast, as the general market direction/trend doesn’t change on a daily basis.

Actionable steps to take during a drawdown

Now to summarize and actually give you some actionable steps.

1. Stop the Bleeding: Stick strictly to your risk management rules. Do not “size up” to recover losses quickly; maintain systematic execution to prevent an emotional spiral.

2. Lean Into the Pain: Immediately begin reviewing and analyzing your recent trades and the current market environment. Acknowledge that re-living these trades will be “painful,” but accept it as a necessary step.

3. Audit via Trading Journal: Use your journal to identify exactly where the strategy or execution failed.

4. Execute the Corrective Plan: Once you understand what went wrong, follow your adjusted plan without deviation. Consistent execution is the only way to rebuild self-confidence and avoid a deeper psychological spiral.

5. Build Your “Mental Anchor”: Document the process of getting out of the drawdown systematically. Use this successful recovery as a reference point for the next time you face a dip in equity.

I am continuing the transparency series and, as you’ve grown accustomed, I am showing you both the wins and the reality behind trading.

Last month I made this post where I showed how I made 8,362 dollars in January.

This month has been one of the hardest months in the last 10 months, in my opinion.

For me personally, although this month, if we look at realized profits, will show a negative month, I consider that I traded much better than in January when I made money.

I respected my risk management for all my trades and downgraded risk, as I said I would at the end of January.

Let’s look at our first statistic:

This month I lost approximately $2,000, about 1.55% of my account.

However, as usual, we need to look at more than just that, specifically, how much I risked to reach these figures.

It’s perfectly normal to experience losing weeks, months, or even quarters. The key is to remember that trading is a long-term endeavor.

And this is how the February calendar looks.

What is the plan for next month?

Need to be more selective

For example, if you watch the entire video, you will see that it wasn’t just a one-time occurrence where I took trades like FLEX and CLS, which are practically in the same sector and move identically, sharing the same patterns and price action.

I need to choose the leader from that group, choose the best one and stick to that one. It makes no sense to have exposure to two stocks that move the same way.

You double the risk of an overnight gap caused by news specific to that company.

So, moving to the next month, I need to:

• Stick to 0.25% risk per trade, and even lower it if conditions become even worse.

• Don’t size up unless you are already in profit on a few names.

• Stick to the leaders, don’t take two names in the same group.

Why do I spend hours meticulously documenting every single entry and exit?

Because you cannot fix what you do not measure.

The biggest difference between a struggling swing trader and a profitable one isn’t a secret indicator or a magic strategy. It’s the review process.

• Amateurs place a trade, lose money, get mad, and immediately try again.

• Pros place a trade, lose money, review the tape, and adjust their edge.

Journaling is the absolute only way to stop bleeding capital on the exact same mistake twice. That discipline is exactly where your financial freedom lives.

In the search to improve how I react to monetary losses in trading, I started digging into studies and trying to understand the psychological effects of losing money.

When I was a beginner, I hated how I reacted after a losing trade. Not the loss itself. The spiral after.

This article is the result of that research and my conclusion.

I’ll list all sources at the end of the article.

I want to start from the premise I saw in this video.

That our relationship with money starts as early as age three.

Basically, multiple studies by neuroscientists and financial therapists have shown that:

Kids start building a money story around age three.

Because they watch the parents.

They watch your face when you open your bank app.
They hear your tone when you say “We can’t afford it.”
They feel the stress when money shows up in a fight.

And their brain does what brains do best.
It builds a script.

A money script is a simple rule your brain learns early, then runs on autopilot later.

Stuff like:
Money is scary.
There is never enough.
Rich people are greedy.
Money solves everything.
Saving is a virtue.
Wanting profit is shameful.

That’s why adults can make more money than ever and still feel broke.
Or have a solid income and still panic when they invest.
Or win in the market but feel guilty for wanting more.

If you grew up with stress around money, you’ll carry stress around money into adulthood.
If you grew up with money as a fix for everything, you might seek comfort in that.

So my conclusion from this is: everyone starts from a different place in life.

And we also have different limiting beliefs.

So start by analyzing your relationship with money, because that’s your real starting point.

Your strategy should be aligned with your character and the relationship you have with money.

When money equals self-worth, stress hits harder

In another study, using a sample of 389 participants, researchers found:

“When we asked people to write about a financial stressor, they experienced a drop in their feelings of autonomy,”
“They also showed more disengagement from their financial problems, they gave up searching for solutions. We didn’t find this in people who didn’t tie their self-esteem to financial success or among those who were asked to write about an academic stressor.”

In those essays, the researchers also coded the type of language participants used to describe their financial problems.

“We found that people who highly based their self-worth on financial success used more negative, emotion-related words, like sadness and anger,”

That’s the part traders hate to admit.

When your self-worth is tied to money, a red day doesn’t feel like data.
It feels like you.

So what happens next looks like “bad trading,” but it’s really a stress reaction:
You move stops.
You size up to get it back.
You start clicking just to feel in control.

The damage it does to your brain

Another interesting study is Mani et al. (2013, Science), which showed that:

Money-related pressure can consume mental bandwidth and reduce cognitive control (executive function), hurting performance.

Can you imagine that?

Financial worries consume mental resources in real time, reducing executive function and the ability to make good decisions.

That can lead to mistakes, procrastination, bad decisions, and a vicious cycle that keeps people stuck.

So if you already have financial problems when you start trading, and then you hit a drawdown after taking consecutive losses, you’re at a massive disadvantage.

Naturally, your brain starts making even worse decisions like:

-not respecting the stop loss
-taking more size
-overtrading

In plain English: money stress eats mental bandwidth.
Less bandwidth means worse decisions.
Worse decisions create more stress.

Loss aversion

Three specific brain regions become activated in situations involving loss aversion.

The amygdala is the part of our brain that primarily processes fear, creating an automated, pre-conscious sense of anxiety when we detect danger.

The second brain region engaged by loss aversion is the striatum, which is responsible for calculating prediction errors and anticipating events.

Finally, our brain’s insula area reacts to disgust, working with the amygdala to encourage us to avoid certain types of behavior.

Though there are many other parts of the brain that contribute to this cognitive bias, these three regions are vital to understanding the neural basis behind how we process and respond to loss.

Loss aversion shows up most clearly in how we manage money, because financial choices spill into every part of life. When decisions aren’t made with a clear, measured process, the downside is rarely limited to the portfolio.

Many people hesitate to buy a stock when there’s a real chance of loss, even if the upside is meaningful.

What’s worse is that loss aversion tends to intensify as the stakes rise. That bias pushes investors to hold losing positions longer than they should, or to avoid strong opportunities simply because the possibility of being wrong feels too costly.

Over time, it can also distort priorities, nudging people toward short-term comfort at the expense of long-term growth.

This is the logic behind myopic loss aversion: protecting yourself from near-term pain can quietly create a bigger problem later.

The solution is a system.

If your mind is the thing that gets hijacked, then your plan must remove as many decisions as possible.

A system gives you repeatable outcomes.

That’s the whole point of Freedom Trades.

I shared my full strategy and risk management plan because having clear rules to follow on your worst day will save your trading account.

Action steps you can do this week

Start with one goal: make your next 20 trades boring.

Pick one setup only.
One entry trigger.
One stop rule.
One position sizing rule.

If you don’t have those written down, your “strategy” is just vibes.

Here’s a simple framework you can copy.

1. Pre-define risk before you enter
   Set a fixed risk per trade. Example: 0.25% to 1% of your account.
   Your stop decides your size.

2. Use a stop rule that does not move
   Place the stop where the trade idea is invalid.
   If you move the stop, you are not managing risk.

3. Track expectancy so you can trust the system
   Write down 20 trades and calculate:
   win rate
   average win
   average loss

If your system has positive expectancy, a loss is just one rep in the gym.

4. Remove decision points with:
   Bracket orders.
   Auto-attached stops.
   Alerts for entries.
   The more clicks you need under stress, the more mistakes you’ll make.

A quick mindset shift that actually works

Stop asking: “How do I feel about this loss?”
Start asking: “Did I follow the system?”

If yes, it was a good trade, even if it lost.
If no, you found the real problem.

That’s how you get consistent!!

If there’s one thing I learned from all this research, it’s simple:

Most people blow up their trading accounts because their brain gets hijacked.

And when that happens, you don’t need more; you need fewer decisions and a system to rely on.

The difference between a stock that yields 2000% returns like $SNDK and one that blows up your trading account, aka $PYPL, lies in exactly what stage that stock is in.

Today, I’m going to show you exactly how to identify potential stocks that can bring you triple-digit returns, and more importantly, how to stay away from the ones that lose you money.

And at the end, I'm going to give you a secret deal that I will make public for a limited time, only for the first 18 members.

The Four Stages of a Stock’s Price Cycle

A stage of a stock refers to one of four distinct, recurring phases in its price lifecycle: Accumulation, Markup, Distribution, and Markdown

And I’m going to show you an example using the worst possible stock right now, namely $PYPL:

Now, let’s discuss each stage individually.

Stage 1 - Accumulation

The price action forms a horizontal base on the chart. This base can last weeks, months, or sometimes even years. The stock might be neglected, but “the bigger the base, the more explosive the move will be.”

A long base will form a much more significant support level. Most of these bases form after a correction, specifically, in a bear market.

Ironically, that is the moment when most traders give up. However, you should do the opposite; a bear market is the time to scan and do the most research. This is because the greatest opportunities are born in bear markets, stocks that will move 200%, 500%, or even 2000% in a bull market, just like $SNDK or $NVDA did.

So, here is what you should do:

1. Create a watchlist with Stage 1 stocks.

2. Set a price alert for the moment the stock exits that base.

3. Monitor for a volume spike as the stock price approaches the breakout zone.

4. Do not try to buy before the transition to Stage 2. These stocks can stay for months, even years, in Stage 4 or Stage 1 (check $PYPL if you don’t believe me). You don’t want to be stuck in a position for years on end.

Here are some good examples: $NVDA (Weekly)

CVNA (weekly)

Stage 2 - Markup

The most important part of the system is recognizing a stock that is entering Stage 2. This is the phase where the stock begins its advance. It can be easily identified; it’s not that complicated.

Here are the signs I look for:

• Increase in relative volume (on both weekly and daily bars).

• Price breaks out of the base formed in Stage 1.

• Price is above the 200 MA on the daily (ideally, above all moving averages: 200, 50, and 20 MA).

How does this stock become a high probability trade?

Analyzing the quality of a Stage 2 breakout is essential! The more qualities a stock possesses, the more it becomes a high-probability trade. Here are the most important factors that transform a stock into one capable of delivering 5x, 10x, or even 20x returns:

The General Market Trend

If we are in a bull market, your stock has a much higher chance of performing. Breakouts only work about 20% of the time in bear markets, so the probability of that stock performing a gap up and then fade is very high when you are in a bear market.

The Sector

It is essential to study the relative strength of a sector. If that stock belongs to a sector that is currently hyped and has a specific story or theme surrounding it, you will find a big winner.

• For example: $TSLA from 2019 to 2021 (the big EV story).

• Or $NVDA from 2023 to 2025 (the AI trade).

Volume

The breakout must occur with a massive surge in volume. At a minimum, look for 2x Rvol on the daily, but even more important is the weekly volume. It must demonstrate that the stock is being targeted by institutions, the only players who can truly drive the stock price higher. Volume shows that accumulation is happening and the stock is being bought by “big money.”

The Size of the Stage 1 Base

As mentioned before, the larger the Stage 1 base, the less resistance that stock will encounter.

Stage 3 - Distribution

Stage 3 is the most dangerous stage of a stock to be in, whether you are on the long side or the short side, because you will be chopped up by the price action.

The stock will tend to move sideways, and you will notice that the Moving Averages on the daily chart start to flatten (the same way they do in Stage 1).

At this point, it is very important not to confuse a Stage 3 top with just another base leg or a consolidation before a potential breakout back into a Stage 2 advance. Therefore, do not start shorting it before the actual move occurs.

If we look at $PYPL again as an example:

I wouldn’t have started shorting it until the price broke below the 200 MA, and I would have used the 50 MA on the daily as guidance for when to close the position.

So, don’t try to front-run the move, as you will get chopped up more often than not.

Stage 4 of a Stock - Markdown

In this stage, the stock is below the 200 MA and 50 MA on the daily and continues to decline. If you are long, this should be a signal to sell your positions, as they can lose considerable value if held during this stage.

For example, $PYPL lost 88% from its All-Time High (ATH).
